Legal Experience
Inhouse: From 2012 through the spring of 2021, I was employed by Aspect Software, Inc. (now Alvaria, Inc.) a PE-backed technology company in the contact center space. I served as Aspect’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel from August of 2018 through its successful sale to Abry Partners in the spring of 2021. As General Counsel, I handled all corporate governance and Board matters; advised senior executives on corporate compliance, corporate acquisition due diligence, intellectual property, and company policies; managed a productive team of attorneys, paralegals, and contract managers responsible for software licensing, SaaS, VAR agreements, and technology partnerships with market-driven focus on closing deals and revenue growth. More recently, I worked as Chief Legal Officer of Emburse, Inc., a PE-backed fintech provider of expense/spend management and AP automation solutions. My first inhouse role was with 3Com Corporation, a publicly-traded company for which I handled employment law, executive compensation, litigation management, and compliance matters.
Private Practice: I started my legal career as a corporate litigator with Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, which was a national leader among law firms providing counsel to technology companies, and Venture Capital and Private Equity firms. My litigation experience proved useful throughout my career, not just to win lawsuits, but to hone my advocacy and communication skills that have been invaluable in business negotiations, conflict resolution, and providing strategic advice to business executives. In addition, for ten years I ran a successful multi-practice law firm based in the heart of Boston’s Financial District. And subsequently, I worked as Of Counsel for Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, PC., providing international employment and foreign corporate entity legal services.
Public Sector: I was General Counsel for the Massachusetts Department of Labor and Workforce Development. In that role, I provided legal oversight of the Massachusetts labor and employment agencies and advised the Governor’s Office on labor and employment-related legislation and policies.
Education
Juris Doctor: University of Connecticut School of Law. Graduated with High Honors; AmJur Awards for Excellence in Contracts and Business Organizations; Allstate Foundation Award for Excellence in Contracts and Torts.
Master of Public Health Degree: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Bachelor of Arts Degree: Lehigh University. President of freshman and sophomore class; member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
